Unemployment Problems
First Step:
You are eligible for unemployment benefits in Minnesota primarily if you are: unemployed, or working substantially reduced hours, through no fault of your own. If you are unemployed for any reason other than lack of work, Minnesota law requires that a process be followed to determine whether you are eligible for benefits. Reference What if I'm unemployed for a reason other than layoff? in the Information Handbook.
If you meet that requirement, you will only be eligible for benefits if you meet all other requirements found at index / Applicants - Unemployment Insurance Minnesota
Second Step:
If you are experiencing delays or denials, contact your local state representative (MN House or Senate). You can find who to contact by using LCC-GIS and entering your full street address. it does not matter which political party represents you, all state representatives offer assistance with state programs like unemployment benefits.
To receive help from your state representative, call their office during working hours (or leave a detailed voicemail) and provide proof of constituency (address or zip code), your full name, number, and describe the issue so they can determine steps going forward. It is likely that you will fill out an online form and may have to wait for their office to call/email you with an update once the state reaches out regarding your status.
