Wage Theft & Unpaid Wages
First Step (Self-advocacy):
If possible, contact your employer and seek clarification in writing to confirm what you believe to be in error. This is recommended if you have a good relationship with your employer and feel safe to do so.
Keep records of your hours worked, your pay stubs, and all messages from your employer (whether personal or otherwise) for future reference.
Second Step (Filing a complaint):
Read the MN Department of Labor's criteria for submitting a wage claim and determine your eligibility through the link below
Wage claim | Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry
Call 651-284-5075 or email dli.laborstandards@state.mn.us if you meet the above criteria
Third Step (Legal help)
Central Minnesota Legal Services provides free legal help to low-income individuals and families to assist with civil legal issues. CMLS does not charge for legal services.
If still stuck, please fill out our intake form.
